The transverse abdominis plane (TAP) block is a peripheral nerve block treatment commonly used for alleviating pain near the abdominal wall. For this procedure, the patient will lay on his or her back while the physician uses an ultrasound to identify the target region for the nerves and then administer the needle. The needle will deliver a local anesthetic to provide pain relief. Patients will be monitored after the procedure for about 15 minutes, and can be safely discharged to go home and resume their typical daily activities.
