The supraorbital nerve provides sensory innervation to regions of the face, such as the forehead, medial part of the upper eyelid, and the root of the nose. Through direct palpitation, the physician will identify the location of the supraorbital foramen, and then administer a superficial injection of a local anesthetic to block the nerve. This procedure can be especially helpful for patients who have pain related to chronic migraines or other frequent headache attacks.
