BOTOX® is a prescription medication used to treat a variety of medical conditions by inducing temporary skeletal muscle relaxation. At Dr. DeCaria’s integrative and functional medicine pain management clinic, Revitalize Medical Center, Botox injections are used to treat patients with Cervical Dystonia. This treatment is FDA approved. Dystonia, on a physiological level is involuntary muscle contractions of opposing muscles. This may result in abnormal postures, pain, or repetitive movements. The Botox is injected into the muscle at various location sites along the neck and surrounding areas using a fine needle for ideal precision and done under ultrasound guidance.

The Botox causes the muscles to relax and ultimately reduce pain and improve mobility. The procedure itself typically takes no more than a few minutes, and typically does not require any anesthesia. Yes, it is even covered by most major insurance plans! The procedure is repeated every three months for lasting results. Possible side effects may include bruising, swelling, or pain at the injection site. Patients who are breastfeeding or who think they may be pregnant should refrain from using Botox.

Dr. DeCaria is a double-board certified physician in anesthesiology and pain management medicine with extensive training and experience in treating chronic pain with Botox injections, in addition to numerous other methods.
