Although most commonly associated with a motor vehicle accident, whiplash can also be caused by a sports injury, physical abuse, or other sudden movements that cause the structures of the neck and/or shoulders to tighten. In this condition, the ligaments, nerves and muscles get damaged. Symptoms can appear immediately after the event causing the whiplash or occur up to several days later. Some of the most common symptoms of whiplash include: a stiff neck, headache, fatigue, pain or muscle spasms.
