A stroke causes a lack of blood flow to the brain which leads to damaged brain tissue. Post-stroke pain, also referred to as central or thalamic pain, presents differently across each patient in terms of time of onset and symptoms experienced. A commonly reported symptom is an intermittent stabbing pain in the head. The pain associated with this condition typically worsens over time and is often irritated by movement or sudden temperature changes.
