Phantom sensation can occur after an amputation, but typically resolves itself over time. However, when the phantom limb pain is chronic, it can often be debilitating. Treatment for phantom limb pain varies depending on the severity of pain. Oftentimes, multiple treatments are combined to provide relief and improve the patient’s quality of life. Patients can benefit from a variety of different therapies, ranging from medications, to physical therapy, or spinal cord stimulation.
